Frequently asked questions about the movie & this website :
Q. Is this one of those "Brat Pack" movies ?
A. YES!. Although the
term Brat Pack is very loosely used in most circles, it is generally accepted
that there only two Brat Pack movies - St Elmo's Fire and The Breakfast
Club, and that anyone who did not appear in at least one of those two movies
is not a Brat Pack member.
In my humble opinion The Breakfast Club is the only true Brat Pack movie
because it virtually defines the youth stereotypes of the 1980's. In fact,
while I'm at it I might as well go so far as to say that The Breakfast Club
is the only movie in history that so clearly defines a particular decade.
Q. Did John Hughes appear in the movie ?
A. Yes. He made a cameo appearance as Brian's father who picks him up after detention.
Q. Who did Brain say he was when trying to answer the essay of "who am I?"
A. The "Walrus". The Walrus was also mentioned in another John Hughes movie Ferris Buellers Day Off, and comes from an old John Lennon song.
Q. Were any other people considered for the roles ?
A. Ally Sheedy was originally cast as Claire, and Emilo Estevez was cast as John Bender.
Q. Where is that whistling tune from ?
A. It is the marching tune from the movie The Bridge On the River Kwai
Q. Where there any other versions of the movie made ?
A. Yes. The US TV version had additional scenes with Vernon kicking a vending machine, Bender collecting money, and Claire saying that Allison is "cool". The Australian TV version did not have these scenes but was edited to remove a lot of the swearing.
Q. Are there any references to TBC in other movies ?
A. Yes, Ferris Buellers Day Off had a car with the license plate "TBC". A recent episode of the TV series Dawson's Creek had a TBC theme and a lot of re-enactments from the movie, and the movie "Go" used several of the classic lines from TBC.
Q. Who was the guy in the Man Of the Year photo ?
A. None other than Carl the Janitor!
Q. Why are some of the sound files not complete ?, for instance - Benders impersonations.
A. I recorded the sounds from the Australian TV release of the movie which was edited to remove a lot of the swearing and some other parts. So I didn't do it deliberately, Sorry!
Q. Who originated the term Neo-Maxi-Zoomdweebie ?
A. Acording to Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson was actually the one to coin the phrase!. (Thanks to CyberRam)
Q. Is Mercedes Hall (Brian's Mother in the movie) actually related to Anthony Michael Hall ?
Q. Where does the name "The Breakfast Club" come from?
A. John Hughe's neighbors son went to a school that had detention called "The Breakfast Club". John thought it sounded good and used it.
Q. Was there ever a stage play of TBC?
A. No. John Hughes does not allow TBC to be adapted to stage plays, although TBC is perfectly written for the stage and the script could be used virtually AS-IS. It's very common in High School plays though.
Q. What is the ending to the joke?
A. Check it out on the Joke page.
